Short Articles To-Do List

This is Sarah, editor of the ISP Wiki. Yep. For reals.

We'd like to see short articles on any of the following topics:

Short Article Format

Please use the following template for any short articles you write:

  • What is X?

Concisely and simply define X. Keep this basic enough so that kids, soccer moms, and anyone who's less tech-savvy can read the article without getting frustrated. You don't need to be patronizing; just do your best to keep things simple.

  • Concerns for Parents

Give a bulleted list of risks and dangers parents should be aware of.

  • How Can I Keep My Child Safe?

List concrete, simple steps parents can take to minimize the risks and dangers associated with your topic.

  • Where Can I Learn More?

The first link in this list should be More About X. This will take the reader to the longer Internet Safety Wiki article about the topic. Below the internal link, list three or four external links to articles, videos, tutorials, or blogs that relate to the topic.

Here's an example of a good short article.

In general, you don't need many citations in short articles. However, if you list specific statistics or facts that aren't common knowledge, you'll need to cite your sources.

Informative Short Article Format

Note that some topics don't need all four sections; you don't need to include a section on keeping your child safe from NetNanny or Microsoft :) You may decide to opt for the "informative short article" format.

  • Where Can I Learn More?
